L3 Compendium of Curiosities 2 Challenge

Saw this challenge on Studio L3 blog today and thought I would give it a go.

The challenge was to use the technique described in Tim Holtz' Compendium of Curiosities Vol2 on page 50. Looked it up and it was a nice technique that I have tried before.

I used a couple of techniques in this one including a new one that I read about a couple of days ago that involves using a glue stick on a stamp then inking. I used the honeycomb patterned stamp to do this in the background before I did the stamping.

Quite pleased with the way it turned out!

I have also entered this in the Let's Craft and Create challenge which has the theme of Things with Wings.

Wonderful Wednesday Challenge

Here we are back with the Wonderful Wednesday Challenge. The theme this week is Apples or Honey and we had to use a Cricut cartridge to make our project.

I chose to use the Preserves cart that I purchased recently and it had a great apple and word file on it that I decided to use.

I cut my apple and word from cardstock and layered them up.

For the background layer, I embossed the card with the swiss dots embossing folder, using a diffuser to ensure a circle was left un-embossed. I used a spellbinders scalloped circle die to get the edge around the clear part of the card and layered the apple onto this part of the card.

Wrapped a ribbon around the top layer and added the bow. The rest of the sentiment was stamped using alphabet stamps and red Memento ink (Ladybug) then highlighted with green pen.

Apples and Honey

Hi again. Here is another fun challenge from Paper Crafting World and the theme this week is Apples and/or Honey.

Some beautiful designs from the design team again too. Check them out here!

My design for this week's challenge incorporates a digi from Melin's lovely digi collection - the Basket of Apples digi stamp.

I printed it out in colour twice, then cut the bottom portion from the second image to provide another layer along the bottom of the image, which I then attached with foam pads. It is a little hard to see the 3D effect here.

I used a new die from Nellie Snellen to cut the red layer and added tiny gold pearl dots around the edge of the die cut.

I added gold peel off corner stickers to add a little finishing touch.

Texture and 3D Challenge

Wow, here it is, Wonderful Wednesday again and time for another challenge over at Cooking with Cricut!
Today's challenge is about texture!

I was exploring my new Tags Bags Boxes and More 2 Cartridge recently and decided that I needed a new holder for my business cards. I found one right at the back of the handbook!

I cut the holder in pink cardstock then folded it all together to make the box. I love how it has the upright back on it to hold the cards up straight!

Before completely folding the box, I stamped the front of the box and the upright piece with a swirly stamp and embossed it with silver detail embossing powder.

The flowers are from Melin's rolled flowers cutting file and the green swirls are from the swirly hearts cutting files available in the PCW on-line shop.

I attached these to the front of the box to add some texture.

Please do join us today at Cooking with Cricut for this great challenge. The DT has done a fab job with  their examples this week!

It's all about Texture!

Today's PCW Terrific Tuesday challenge is all about texture.

For my DT contribution today, I have chosen the apple box cutting file from PCW to make the base of my textured project.

I cut the apple box base from a 12"x12" piece of Bazzil cardstock along with the top layer of the apples, which I then embossed with the swirly embossing folder and my Cuttlebug.

The stem, leaves and handle were also cut using the file and they were embossed using various folders to give more texture. Aclose up of these is below.

I stamped the sentiment onto cardstock then cut with a new die and coloured with distress ink.

Its all about the numbers

PCW's Terrific Tuesday Challenge this week is all about Numbers! The DT has come up with some lovely projects for you to look at here!

For this week's challenge, I decided to use the numbers embossing folder as a background. I inked the folder with the green ink then embossed the card as normal. It came out with a lovely green background and the numbers showing in the cream cardstock.

I stamped some little pennants on blue spotted paper and used the same paper for the lower part of the card.
I cut out the pennants and attached them to some bakers twine across the top of the card.

I printed the digi image from PCW here then coloured him in using copic markers. I added some sparkly pen to the sparkler, but it really does not show up here!

I stamped the sentiment using the same ink as the background then die cut it and attached to the card.

CWC Colour Combo Challenge

I am excited to have joined the Cooking with Cricut Design Team for this current term and am looking forward to challenging myself each week to use my Cricut in interesting ways, as well as getting more use out of the cartridges that I currently own.

The challenge this week is a colour combo one, and I have used the colours along with the Art Nouveau cartridge to create this card.

I bought the cart quite a while ago and have not used it a lot, so this was my first challenge to myself! I enjoyed putting it together and now think I need to use it more!

I used two different red colours on the rose part of the decoration and coloured one of the reds with a sparkly gel pen to make it stand out a little.

Please join us over at Cooking with Cricut for the challenge this week!

PCW Colour Challenge

A new DT has begun a term over at Paper Crafting World and there is a fun challenge on this week. It is a colour combo challenge and it was fun deciding what to do for it!

These were the colours selected for the challenge and it was a bit of a challenge to get them all in!

I think I managed it, with a bit of creative license!!

For this card, I used the bloomin roses cutting file from PCW here, and cut it out using the Cricut Expression and SCAL2.

I used the cuttlebug and various embossing folders for the vase, flowers and leaves.

For the background, I cut a die using a creative concepts die and embossed it then coloured the embossed areas with a copic marker.

To finish it off, I added corners that I also coloured with copic marker then added the pearls as a finishing touch.

Look forward to seeing the wonderful entries for this week's challenge!.

Card Making World Monthly Challenge

It was Father's Day here in New Zealand yesterday, so I made this card for my dear husband to thank him for being such a great father and grandfather to our children and grandchild.

It is also one of the cards I made for the Monthly Challenge DT over at Card Making World, the theme of which this month is Monochrome.

The central image is a die cut in black, embossed with white chalk ink and backed with a white layer, cut from the outer edge of the die.

The silhouette was cut separately and added to the centre of the card.

The second DT card for the monthly challenge was a Wedding themed card.

I cut this all out using my Cricut and white cardstock, then embossed some of the layers to provide contrast in texture, rather than colour.

The bride and groom had sparkly gel pen added to highlight some of the features of their clothes.
